How It Works

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are the most common questions about the Heart Health Risk Assessment—how it works, what it measures, how your data is protected, and what your results mean.

    About the assessment

The Heart Health Risk Assessment is a quick, 30-second scan you can take using your phone's camera. It helps you understand your estimated heart age, your current heart-health risk level, and gives you simple next steps to discuss with a qualified healthcare professional. It's designed as an educational & wellness tool for heart-health awareness, not for diagnosis.

Bayer® Aspirin is making heart health accessible by providing a zero cost, heart health assessment powered by our partnership with Nuralogix' pioneering camera-based heart health assessment technology.

Knowing your estimated heart age and current risk level makes your overall heart health easier to understand at a glance. It gives you a starting point to educate yourself on where you are today and to decide what you'd like to discuss with your doctor at your next appointment.

No. The Heart Health Risk Assessment is designed as an educational tool to raise awareness of your heart health - not to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition. It does not replace an assessment by a qualified healthcare professional. If you have any health concerns, please speak with your doctor.

How it works & the science

You simply hold your phone as if taking a selfie. Using the camera, the technology detects tiny color changes on the surface of your skin caused by blood flow in your face. That blood-flow information is analyzed by AI to estimate a range of heart-health indicators (including your heart age and risk level) and the result is sent back to your device.

You can wear glasses, but for the most reliable reading, we recommend removing anything else that covers key areas of your face. If a large area of your face is covered, the scan may still complete but the result may be less accurate.

The scan takes approximately 30 seconds and all you need is a device with a camera, such as a smartphone, tablet, or laptop. No special hardware, wearables, or sensors are required. For best results, we recommend using a smartphone for your assessment.

The scan pauses or cancels when the video signal becomes unstable. That usually comes down to:

      • Movement - try holding your device more steadily or rest it on a stand.
      • Lighting changes - avoid flickering bulbs or moving light sources.
      • Face out of frame - keep your face centred in the outline throughout.

The status bar will inform how stable the scan quality is. A green indicator means you are taking an ideal scan, whereas a red or orange indicator means you may need to adjust your position or lighting.

TOI™ is the patented technology that makes the scan possible. Human skin is translucent, so light reflects differently from the layers beneath it depending on how blood is flowing. TOI™ uses a standard camera to detect these subtle changes and turn them into a signal. That signal is then processed by NuraLogix's AI engine, DeepAffex®, which combines advanced signal processing and Deep Learning to estimate heart-related insights.

Yes. The Heart Health Risk Assessment is built on research-based technology trained on clinical datasets. NuraLogix has trained and validated its computational models against well-established scientific instruments used in labs and clinics, and its research has been published in multiple peer-reviewed research studies. The tool was built on model data from more than 100,000 people.

        Privacy & security

No. The scan is not designed to identify you and doesn't capture any identifiable imagery or video. Instead, it uses your camera to detect your facial blood flow which is analyzed to calculate several vital signs and related health risks.

Yes. Your privacy is protected by design. The only data captured and analyzed is a light signal containing your pulse waveform (just like the green lights on a smart watch). Image or video data is never sent or stored. You'll be asked for camera permission before starting the scan and you can stop at any time. You don't need to provide any personal data to use the service.

No. You do not need to provide an email address, phone number, or create an account to take the Assessment.

Yes. You control the scan from start to finish. You'll be asked for camera permission before it begins, and you can stop and exit whenever you choose.

          Your results & next steps

Heart Age is an estimate of how your heart is doing compared to your actual (chronological) age. For example, if your Heart Age comes back a few years older than your actual age, it might be a helpful signal that heart-health habits are worth a closer look and a useful starting point for a conversation with your doctor.

Your results are a starting point, not a verdict. Use them to:

          • Reflect on your current heart health and any habits you may want to change.
          • Speak with a qualified healthcare professional about anything that surprises or concerns you.

No. The Heart Health Risk Assessment is a wellness and awareness tool, it does not replace an assessment by a qualified healthcare professional. It is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Please continue to consult your doctor for any medical decisions or concerns.
